autism-uk -- A List for discussions about Autism relevant to the UK

About autism-uk

What is the purpose of the list?
To discuss autism issues among UK residents or issues that are specific to the UK e.g. education legislation, social services, where to go for help, availability of therapies etc. In this context 'autism' should be taken to mean any autistic continuum disorder (including PDD and Asperger Syndrome). The list has no official connection with any organisation.

We hope that members will be able to provide encouragement and support to one another, to give information about services in the UK, to help spread internet use among the autism community in the UK. Additionally it can provide a forum to discuss ideas on longer-term resources on the Internet in the UK e.g. newsgroup, more specialised mailing lists.

Who can join the list?
Anyone resident in the UK, who has an interest in autism including parents, carers, people with autism, teachers, doctors, researchers, therapists etc. UK citizens resident abroad are also welcome and we will consider requests from others abroad. We are especially keen for professionals to participate although it is strictly against list rules for procure for clients. Any advice given should be free.

Is there a digest version of this list?
Yes - the digest list only sends you out one email per day. Each one contains all the messages sent to autism-uk since the previous digest was sent out. This cuts down the amount of email you receive from autism-uk but remember that you will not see your own emails to autism-uk or any replies until the next digest is sent out. The digest email is sent out every day at 3am so that it is ready for you to read every morning.

To subscribe to the digest version simply answer yes to the question ‘Would you like to receive list mail batched in a daily digest?’ when you subscribe below.

If you are already a subscriber and would like to switch to the digest version you can either use the options page or email the list administrator.

Is there a List Archive?
An archive of all messages is provided for subscribers of the list - should you miss some posts due to a holiday for example. To access the archive you will need the password that your provided when you subscribed. To view the archives click here.

How do I post to the list?
E-mail messages for this list should be sent to

autism-uk@lists.autismisanotherworld.com

The messages will be automatically distributed to all members. Please note that this is not the address for unsubscribing.

Can I send email attachments to the list?
NO, but if you have a very important document to send to the list but have no other way of doing so, you can contact the list administrator (see below for address) and your document can be put on the autism-uk web site for distribution. Alternatively, email the list and ask members to contact you privately so that you can distribute it without going via the list.

Advertising, spamming and other rules of the list
The following guidelines are merely a matter of common sense and courtesy:

  • Please treat your list-mates with respect. Disagreements are fine but flaming (e.g. name calling or abuse) in any way is not allowed.

  • This is a private list so only members can post to it. If you want to pass a message onto a third party (e.g. a teacher) and it contains personal information, please ask the senders' permission first.

  • Members should not post private emails without prior permission and should also be aware that copyright laws apply on the internet just as they do in other walks of life.

  • Discussions on the list should revolve around autism and related issues.

  • Spamming (i.e. sending unsolicited email) is strictly forbidden and will result in expulsion.

  • Information on conferences and new product offerings and services are welcome, blatant advertising is not.
Those who break these rules will face action such as moderation of posts or expulsion from the list. The list administrators decision is final.
